Portfolio / Solid Walnut Light Fixture Prototype

For this project we were asked to fabricate a full-scale prototype of a linear sconce for Steven Holl Architects. The entire piece was made from solid walnut on our CNC router. The design was split into two separate pieces to make it possible to fabricate the deep undercut of the cove on the CNC machine. In addition, a rabbet was cut into each piece making it easy to slide the two halves together through the half-lap joint formed on the back of the sconce.
